What is Film Emulator?

Film Emulator applies 40 film styles to a photo or a short clip: 18 one-click grading looks, 12 film stocks modeled on curves from published manufacturer data sheets, and 10 original film bases. Pick a style, set its strength, and fine-tune exposure, color temperature, contrast and print density with live preview.

Texture is built in: grain with size, color and roughness controls, red halation around highlights, soft bloom and vignette. For video you can add exposure flicker, dust and a slight gate weave that change frame by frame.

Everything runs on your device. Images render with WebGL; video is re-encoded frame by frame with WebCodecs at 30 fps, so nothing is uploaded while you edit. The stock styles follow published tone curves; none of them is a scan-verified match of a specific film.

How to use it

  1. 1Drop in a photo or a short video (MP4, WebM or MOV), or start from your generations.
  2. 2Choose one of 40 film styles and set the strength.
  3. 3Fine-tune color, then pick a texture — clean, 35mm, 16mm or 8mm — and adjust grain and halation.
  4. 4Compare with the original using the before / after curtain; for video, play it back with the effect applied.
  5. 5Sign in and export — PNG / JPG / WebP for images, MP4 or WebM for video.

FAQ

Is this a scan-accurate emulation of a real film stock?
No. The 12 data-sheet stocks are fitted to the characteristic curves that film manufacturers publish, without brand names or commercial LUTs, and were not verified against film scans; the looks and original bases are our own color designs. Treat them all as creative starting points.
Are my photos or videos uploaded?
No. Preview and export run entirely in your browser. Videos are download-only and are never uploaded; a processed photo only leaves your device if you choose to save it to your generations.
How long can a video be?
On a computer up to 120 seconds and 150 MB; on a phone up to 60 seconds and 80 MB. Output is 30 fps. HDR video is not supported — convert it to SDR first.
Which browsers can export video?
Video export needs WebCodecs and WebGL, available in recent Chrome, Edge and Safari. Without them you can still process photos. Keep the tab open while a video is exporting.
Do I need an account?
You can try every style without signing in. Exporting needs a free account; all export sizes are available on the free plan.
