What is Relight Studio?

Relight Studio estimates the relative depth of a single photo on your device, then lets you drag virtual lights across the picture and watch the light fall on faces, walls and objects in real time.

It is 2.5D relighting, not generative AI: your original pixels stay, and the tool adds light, shade and color temperature based on the estimated surface. Hair, glass and see-through edges can still need a manual touch.

Start from 19 lighting presets — soft light, Rembrandt, butterfly, rim light, dappled leaves or window blinds — then fine-tune each light’s brightness, color temperature, height and range, or add line-art stickers that follow the surface.

How to use it

  1. 1Upload a photo (JPG, PNG, WebP or AVIF, up to 25 MB), or try the sample portrait.
  2. 2Analyze the image. The first time, your browser downloads the depth model once; the analysis runs on this device.
  3. 3Pick a lighting preset, then drag the lights on the picture. The rings around a selected light set its brightness, color temperature and range.
  4. 4Fine-tune ambience, exposure, shadows and background depth, or add stickers.
  5. 5Sign in and export a PNG, JPG or WebP.

FAQ

Is this generative AI relighting?
No. A small depth model estimates relative depth from one image, and the light is computed as 2.5D shading on top of your original pixels. Nothing is redrawn or invented, so results are predictable — but hair, glass and see-through edges may not separate perfectly.
Is my photo uploaded?
No. Decoding, depth analysis and rendering all happen in your browser. The first analysis downloads the depth model and its runtime once (roughly 70–85 MB depending on your device); later visits reuse the copy saved on this device.
Why do I need to sign in to export?
Trying the tool is free and needs no account. Exporting the finished image needs a free account; for visitors who are not signed in, the preview is shown at a lower resolution with a small mark.
Does it work on phones?
Yes, with limits: phones use a lighter analysis and preview, at most two lights and two stickers, and exports of up to 4 megapixels. On a computer you get up to four lights and exports of up to 9 megapixels.
Which photos work best?
Photos with soft, even light and clear outlines — portraits, products, interiors. Strong existing shadows won’t disappear, and brightening also reveals compression artifacts, so start from the best-quality original you have.
