AI Video Generator Alternatives to Sora and Runway
Six AI video generators compared on durations, resolutions, reference inputs, audio and workflow, with sources and no price claims.
TL;DR
- AI video tools split into single-vendor products with their own model (Runway, Kling, Google Veo) and multi-model workspaces that host several vendors' models side by side (Genvizu, Pika, Luma).
- The numbers that decide a project are clip length, resolution, how many reference inputs you can use, and whether the model generates sound. They differ sharply between models, even inside one product.
- On Genvizu the range runs from 1-second clips on Grok Imagine Video 1.5 to 30-second clips on Seedance 2.5, and from 480p to 4K depending on the model.
- Check availability, usage rights and current model names on each vendor's own page before you plan a production around them.
How we compared
We compared tools you can reach today as alternatives for people searching for a Sora alternative, a Runway alternative or an AI video generator in general. We relied only on each vendor's official pages and, for Genvizu, our production model configuration (snapshot 2026-10-23). For each candidate we recorded the model or models offered, what the page says about duration, resolution, reference inputs and audio, and how you reach it (web, app, API). We left price out because plans change quickly, and we did not rank output quality, because it depends on the prompt, the shot and the taste of the viewer. Where no official page confirmed a fact, we left it out rather than guess. Genvizu is one of six entries and is held to the same standard. Sora is covered at the end as a status note, because OpenAI has discontinued it. Vendor pages were read on 2026-10-23; this market changes quickly, so treat model names as a dated snapshot.
The alternatives
Genvizu
Positioning. A browser studio that offers ten enabled video models from several vendors next to its image models, a prompt gallery and a canvas, so one storyboard can be tried on different engines.
Features.
- Duration and resolution differ by model, shown per model: Seedance 2.5 runs 5 to 30 seconds at 480p or 720p; Seedance 2.0 Pro runs 4 to 15 seconds up to 1080p; Gemini Omni Flash 1.1 runs 4, 6, 8 or 10 seconds at 720p, 1080p or 4K; MiniMax H3 runs 4 to 15 seconds at 2K; Grok Imagine Video 1.5 runs 1 to 15 seconds at 480p or 720p (source: Genvizu production model configuration, 2026-10-23).
- Seedance 2.5, Seedance 2.0 Pro, Fast and Mini accept up to 9 reference images, 3 reference videos and 3 reference audio tracks per run; Gemini Omni Flash 1.1 accepts up to 7 reference images and supports first-and-last-frame control (source: same snapshot and the model descriptions in it).
- Veo 3.1 (standard, Fast and Lite) is offered at 720p and 1080p in 16:9 or 9:16. The standard and Fast tiers produce 8-second clips, and Lite offers 4, 6 or 8 seconds (source: same snapshot). Genvizu describes Veo as generating sound with the video.
Who it suits. People who want to try a storyboard on several video models, especially when they need long clips, mixed reference inputs, or a choice of resolution tier.
Caveat. Genvizu routes other vendors' models rather than operating them, and Seedance 2.5 stops at 720p, so deliveries that must be 1080p need a different tier or model.

Runway
Positioning. A cloud creative suite for video, images and audio, plus a developer API.
Features.
- Describes two products: Runway Creative, an all-in-one cloud platform for generating and editing video, images and audio, and Runway Dev, an API platform that offers Runway's models and other labs' models (source: https://runway.com/).
- Lists Gen-4.5 as its video model. Gen-4.5 makes 2 to 10 second clips from text or from an image (sources: same page; https://help.runwayml.com/hc/en-us/articles/46974685288467-Creating-with-Gen-4-5; https://docs.dev.runwayml.com/assets/inputs/).
- Offers iPhone and Android apps, Runway Ads for video and image ads, and integrations including MCP and a ChatGPT plugin (source: same page).
Who it suits. Teams that want one cloud suite for editing and generation, or developers who want an API with model routing.

Google Veo
Positioning. Google's video model, available through several Google products.
Features.
- Generates sound effects, ambient noise and dialogue natively with the video (source: https://deepmind.google/models/veo/).
- Lists 1080p and 4K output, 8-second clips, and Scene Extension to continue a clip (source: same page).
- Offers ingredients-to-video with reference images, first-and-last-frame transitions, camera and motion controls, and SynthID watermarking, with availability in Gemini, Flow, the Gemini API and AI Studio (source: same page).
Who it suits. People who want Google's model directly, with its camera controls and provenance marking.

A note on OpenAI Sora
OpenAI states that its Sora product is no longer available as of 26 April 2026 (source: https://openai.com/index/sora-2/). If you are replacing Sora, the six tools above are the ones to compare.

Which one fits you
- If you need clips longer than 15 seconds, compare Seedance 2.5 on Genvizu, which runs up to 30 seconds, with Pika's multi-shot Video Studio.
- If you need 1080p or higher, look at Seedance 2.0 Pro or Gemini Omni Flash 1.1 on Genvizu, or Google Veo directly.
- If you want to guide a shot with several references, look at the Seedance tiers, which take images, videos and audio.
- If you want a cloud suite or an API, look at Runway or Luma.
- If you want a canvas with desktop and mobile apps, look at Kling.
- If you want a quick, lightweight draft before committing, try a lightweight tier such as Seedance 2.0 Mini or Grok Imagine Video 1.5.

How do I choose an AI video generator?
No single model fits every shot. Clip length, resolution, reference inputs and sound differ by model, so the answer depends on the shot. Test the same prompt on two or three models and judge motion, consistency and fit with your brief.
What is a good Sora alternative?
It depends on what you used Sora for. For storyboards across models, a multi-model workspace fits. For Google's model with native audio, try Veo. OpenAI states that its Sora product is no longer available as of 26 April 2026 (source: https://openai.com/index/sora-2/).
What is a good Runway alternative?
For similar suite-style editing, look at Luma or Pika. For several vendors' models in one place, look at Genvizu or Leonardo.
Which models generate sound?
Genvizu describes Veo 3.1 as generating sound and Grok Imagine Video 1.5 as having synced audio; Seedance 2.5 generates audio by default (source: Genvizu model configuration and hub page, 2026-10-23 and 2026-09-10). Some models, such as MiniMax H3 and Gemini Omni Flash 1.1, have no audio toggle in Genvizu's configuration.
How long can a clip be?
By model: up to 30 seconds on Seedance 2.5, 15 seconds on most others on Genvizu, 10 on Gemini Omni Flash 1.1, and 8 on Veo 3.1 and Veo 3.1 Fast.
Can I use the videos commercially?
Terms vary by vendor and model. Read the licence on the vendor or model page before client work.
