How to Turn a Product Photo into a Polished Ad Using AI

If you've been running ads with basic product shots — white background, flat lighting, nothing special — AI image generation gives you a practical shortcut to polished creative without a photography budget. Here's a workflow that actually works.

The Core Concept

You don't need to replace your product photo. The goal is to generate a scene around the product — a lifestyle context, a styled environment, an editorial backdrop — that makes the product feel premium and relevant. The reference image (your existing photo) anchors the product; the AI generates everything else.

This works especially well for:

  • Physical products (skincare, supplements, packaged food, apparel)
  • Consumer tech and accessories
  • Home goods and lifestyle products

Step 1: Write the Scene Prompt

Start with the environment, not the product. Describe what you want surrounding the product:

"A glass skincare serum bottle on a white marble surface, natural morning light from the left, soft shadows, editorial beauty photography, magazine quality, minimalist"

Key elements to include:

  • Surface/environment (marble, wood, linen, outdoor)
  • Lighting (golden hour, studio soft box, rim light, window light)
  • Style reference (editorial, commercial, lifestyle, flat lay)
  • Mood (luxe, approachable, clinical, playful)

Step 2: Choose the Right Model

For product photography, Flux 2 and GPT Image 2 are the strongest choices:

  • Flux 2 — highest photorealism, handles surface textures and lighting exceptionally well
  • GPT Image 2 — better at following specific compositional instructions, handles text in-frame if your product has visible labels

Avoid using artistic models like Midjourney V8 here unless you specifically want a stylized editorial look rather than a commercial-realism feel.

Step 3: Generate Variations Quickly

Don't commit to one direction. Generate 4–6 variations by changing:

  • The lighting (morning vs. golden hour vs. studio)
  • The surface (marble vs. dark wood vs. linen)
  • The perspective (flat lay vs. 45-degree angle vs. straight-on)

This takes minutes and credit cost is low. You'll know which direction works within the first batch.

Step 4: Refine With Specificity

Once you've picked a direction, sharpen the prompt:

  • If the shadow looks wrong: "clean soft shadow directly below, no harsh edges"
  • If the background feels busy: *"clean minimal background, slight blur, no clutter"
  • If the product looks off-model: add specific product descriptors ("amber glass bottle, pump top, frosted label")

Step 5: Export and Use

AI-generated product images work well in:

  • Facebook / Instagram feed ads
  • Email header images
  • Landing page hero sections
  • Amazon listing secondary images

For paid ads, generate at multiple aspect ratios (1:1 for feed, 9:16 for stories, 16:9 for display). Genvizu lets you specify output dimensions in the generation settings.

Browse for Inspiration First

The ads & product category in the Explore gallery shows how other creators are styling product shots. Filter by the model, find a prompt structure you like, copy it, and adapt it to your product. This cuts your iteration time significantly.

You don't need a photographer, a studio, or a post-production budget. With a clear prompt and the right model, you can have gallery-quality product creative in under 30 minutes.
