Midjourney 8.2 Is Live: Release Date, What Changed vs V8.1, and How to Use It in Genvizu

Updated September 3, 2026. This page was first published on June 29, 2026 as a pre-release watchlist, when V8.2 had not been announced. V8.2 has since shipped and is the default version, so this page is now maintained as the release record: what changed, what it costs, and how it behaves inside Genvizu.

Midjourney V8.2 is the current default model version. Midjourney's official version documentation records V8.2 as the default from July 24, 2026, taking over from V8.1, which held the default slot from June 10 through July 23, 2026. V8.2 was available in preview from June 25, 2026, a month before the switch.

Genvizu connected V8.2 on July 28, 2026, four days after it became default. It appears in the model picker as Midjourney 8.2, alongside Midjourney 8.1.

What changed compared with V8.1

V8.2 is an aesthetics release rather than a new control surface. Midjourney's version documentation presents it as an image-quality and aesthetic step over V8.1, with Personalization as part of the same update. Three practical consequences:

  • The look changes, not the vocabulary. The same prompt tends to come back more finished. You are not being asked to describe images differently.
  • The parameter surface is unchanged. --ar, --stylize, --chaos, --raw, --iw, --sref, and --sw behave as they did in V8.1. Prompts written for 8.1 still parse.
  • Personalization is part of the update. If you use a personalization profile on midjourney.com, expect its effect to render differently than it did on 8.1.

One caution on sourcing. Several third-party write-ups credit V8.2 with new aspect ratios or with replacing Midjourney's reference tooling. Those claims do not appear on Midjourney's official version or prompt pages, so treat them as unverified until Midjourney documents them. Everything in this article is either from Midjourney's own documentation or from Genvizu's own model configuration.

Running Midjourney 8.2 in Genvizu

Item Value
Credits, 1K 23 per run
Credits, 2K 35 per run
Images per run 4
Aspect ratios 1:1, 4:3, 3:2, 16:9, 3:4, 2:3, 9:16
Resolution 1K or 2K (2K is native HD)
Reference image 1, used as either an image prompt or a style reference
Prompt language English
Prompt length 1,024 characters
Plan requirement None — selectable on every plan, credits permitting
Commercial use Restricted by Midjourney's terms

Because every run returns four images, a 1K run works out to under six credits per image. Full per-model costs are on the model pricing page; plans and credit packs are on the pricing page.

On commercial use: Genvizu flags Midjourney as commercially restricted. Midjourney's own terms decide what you may do with the output, so confirm your rights before putting a Midjourney render into paid work. That flag is model-specific and does not apply to the rest of the model library.

How parameters actually behave in Genvizu

Genvizu reads Midjourney flags out of your prompt and forwards them as real API parameters. Worth knowing before you paste a prompt from elsewhere:

  • Aspect ratio. Pick it in the panel, or write --ar 16:9 in the prompt. An --ar value inside the supported seven wins over the panel. Anything outside them, --ar 2:1 for instance, falls back to the panel ratio instead of failing upstream.
  • --stylize / --s, --chaos / --c, --quality / --q, --raw, --iw are extracted and sent as parameters. Omit them and the defaults apply: stylize 0, chaos 0, quality 1, raw off, image weight 1.
  • --sref and --sw stay in the prompt so Midjourney parses style codes natively. Paste several --sref values and only the first survives — the rest are stripped before the request goes out.
  • An uploaded reference image becomes an image prompt in content mode, or a style reference in style mode. One image, either way.
  • --hd and --profile are stripped and never forwarded. 2K comes only from the resolution selector, which keeps what you are billed aligned with what you get.
  • Prompts are trimmed at 1,023 characters on a word boundary. Longer briefs lose their tail, so put the parameters and the load-bearing description early.

Five prompts to run today

Each of these fits the 1K/23-credit run and returns four images.

Product hero, wet street

compact electric city car under a glass canopy, rainy Tokyo street at dusk,
three-quarter front view, neon reflections on black asphalt, pearl white paint,
dark tinted glass, premium automotive campaign, restrained and realistic
--ar 16:9 --stylize 150

Editorial portrait

portrait of a ceramicist in a daylight studio, medium format film photography,
waist-up framing, soft north-facing window light, warm gray and clay tones,
visible material texture on hands and apron, calm documentary mood
--ar 4:3 --raw

Architecture, establishing shot

solitary coastal hotel on a Mediterranean cliff, editorial architectural
photography, wide establishing view, late-afternoon side light, chalk white
walls and faded cobalt blue, quiet summer atmosphere, restrained textures
--ar 16:9 --stylize 150

Flat illustration with a style code

three orange cats asleep on a windowsill, flat vector illustration,
limited palette of faded sky blue and warm cream, soft edges,
generous negative space on the right --ar 3:2 --sref 4250870612 --sw 200

Packaging concept with layout space

matte glass skincare bottle on a stone shelf, premium editorial campaign,
centered symmetrical composition, sage green with brushed brass accent,
hard side light casting one clean shadow, ample negative space above
for layout, no readable text --ar 2:3 --stylize 300

Migrating a V8.1 workflow

  • Cost is identical. Both versions run 23 credits at 1K and 35 at 2K, so switching is cost-neutral.
  • There is no seed to pin a frame with. Genvizu's Midjourney route exposes no seed parameter, and a --seed left in the prompt is not something we can verify upstream, so treat compositions as non-reproducible across versions. To continue an established series, stay on Midjourney 8.1.
  • Re-baseline --stylize. Because the default look changed, a stylize value that felt right on 8.1 can read as too strong on 8.2. Test one image before regenerating a batch.
  • Re-test style codes. --sref codes still work, but they render differently. Check a single output before committing a whole set.
  • 8.1 is still there. Genvizu keeps Midjourney 8.1 in the picker at the same price, which is the safe choice for continuing an established series.
